Koa’s Club Field Hockey

Maryland and Washington, DC

The Koa Green Wave u14 Club Team takes 1st Place at the 2020 United Sports Indoor Tournament!

Are you a seasoned field hockey player who is looking to be challenged at the highest level? The Koa Club Team is our most elite field hockey program at Koa Sports. Our Club team is for those players who are looking to commit to field hockey year-round.

Koa’s Club Field Hockey team brings together a great group of like-minded, hard-working, and driven players who want to take their game to the next level. Club Field Hockey offers the same fun and exciting playing experience as our Rec League and Development Teams, but at a more competitive level and over the course of multiple seasons. Club Field Hockey is the best way to kick start your commitment to the sport while maintaining Koa’s central mission — having fun!

u12 & u14 Club Commitment : Our u12 and u14 Club Teams are normally a year-round commitment that consists of three seasons (Winter, Spring, Fall). There are no summer club commitments. We will then be holding our annual Club tryouts in May/June for the 2019-20 season which will be a year-round commitment and consist of a Fall, Winter, Spring season.

Our u12 and u14 Club Teams will practice 2 times per week during each season. Also, our Club teams are guaranteed 3-4 tournaments during both the Winter and Spring Seasons. During the Fall Season, our u12 and u14 Club Teams will play in the DMV Fall Club League, and compete against other Club Teams in the DMV area each weekend during the 8 week season. Due to COVID, our 2020 Fall Season will be different. Please read below for more details on the Fall 2020 Development Team Season.

u16 & u19 Club Commitment : Our u16 and u19 Club Teams are a single season commitment. A single season commitment accommodates and allows our high school athletes to participate in other high school sports during the school year. The u16 and u19 Club Teams have a Winter Indoor Season and a Spring Outdoor Season. We do not offer a Fall Outdoor Season, because all of our athletes will be playing for their high school teams in the fall.

Our u16 and u19 Club Teams will practice 2 times per week during each season. Also, our Club teams are guaranteed 3-4 tournaments during both the Winter and Spring Seasons. Professional Coaches & Field Hockey Staff : Koa Field Hockey has over 30+ professional coaches. Our coaches are carefully selected through an interview process, field hockey knowledge quiz and a background check. All of our Club Team coaches have prior college playing experience. Each of our coaches are trained on the Koa FH coaching standards, which include the four Koa Core Values: positive, dedicated, team-first and fun. Our coaches are supported by our year-round administrative staff, who include Kelly Given, the Director of Field Hockey, and Jules Riley, the Assistant Director of Field Hockey.

2020 Fall Club Team Season: *Updated 8/3/20*

All of our Club Teams will have FH practice 2x/week and a Speed/Agility/Conditioning (SAC) Session 1x/wk during the course of the Fall Season. Each team will have their 2 FH practices on a turf field and the SAC Session at Churchill High School. Practice days/times are TBD and will be announced once MCPS releases the Fall virtual school schedule.

Due to COVID, Koa will be having a ‘practice-only’ Fall Season. We will be following all CDC recommendations, and we believe this is our responsibility and the best way to keep our players, families and coaches safe while also getting to play our favorite sport! As the Fall season progresses, Koa will continue to evaluate the current situation. We may plan a few ‘in-house’ Koa Play Days for any players who feel comfortable scrimmaging with other Koa athletes. Koa may also schedule a few games versus another local Club Team and possibly attend a local tournament. All of this is dependent upon how the Fall progresses and the comfort level and interest of our players, families and coaches.

Since there are still so many unknowns, the Fall Club Season will be a single season commitment. We will reassess the teams and the current state of youth sports and Maryland as we get closer to the Winter indoor season.
