Do you have what it takes to be a Goalkeeper?
Blog #19.18
Goalie is said to be the most difficult position on the field. And one that not many people want to play. It takes a lot of hard work, dedication and toughness to be successful. Goalies are given the most pressure because they are the last line of defense and often blamed for goals scored against the team. That’s why it takes an “amazing” person to be a goalkeeper! Goalies play almost a different type of game; a game with complex and different rules, different equipment and extraordinary performance requirements.
5 Tips for Goalies to always remember:
– Try to always stay on the balls of your feet. This helps keep the ball flat when kicking and making foot saves.
2. Keep your hands in a high and open position when facing shots
– Find a height that is comfortable and allows you to be able to move and react to high shots while being able to drop and extend if you have to dive.
3. When diving or smothering, always look to land/slide on your hips
4. Try to stay relaxed and always watch the ball
5. Enjoy being in goal!Happy goalkeepers are good goalkeepers! No one likes letting in a goal, but you have to accept the fact that you will not save everything. Don’t get down about the goals that go in or hung up on that shot you should have saved! Clear your mind and focus on the next one!
