Performance Development & Training
Our training program, centered around the core philosophy "Train. Practice. Play", is designed to elevate every athlete's game.
Athletes will be able to participate in skills training sessions at M.A.D.E. 2 Perform Basketball Center or in Koa's indoor facility where they will focus on injury prevention, agility and technical skills and body awareness assessment. This holistic approach ensures that each player improves their physical, mental and social preparedness to thrive on and off the court. We serve as a guidepost to give players the best version of themselves. Through our methods our players will learn to release anxiety, promote healthy habits and increase their mental capacity to excel.

How to Get Involved
Boys Basketball FAQs:
M.A.D.E. powered by Koa Sports is committed to shaping kids’ lives through sports, while providing a safe, rewarding, self-empowering and competitive environment. Our basketball program aims to develop each child to his or her full potential as an athlete and a person by:
-Employing trained and dedicated professional coaches and instructors who operate under the supervision and management of our full-time professional staff.
-Providing a positive community for our young athletes and their families.
-Using sports as a vehicle to teach life lessons like hard work, sportsmanship, self-discipline, and coping with adversity.
While many of our young athletes will enjoy long, successful playing careers in high school and beyond, we recognize not all are destined for professional, college, or even high school competition. Using sports as a vehicle we aim for each athlete to learn healthy habits and to grow mentally, physically, and socially. Consistent with this philosophy, M.A.D.E. affords its athletes the opportunity to develop in their sport of choice and, ultimately, in the game of life.

Select teams will be coached by volunteers. There will be one practice/training session per week run by our professional staff.
Elite teams will be exclusively coached by our professional staff.
In simplest terms, it means that the coach is required to (a) follow the practice plans designed and implemented by the M.A.D.E. Basketball Powered by Koa Sports collegiate and professional players; (b) have extensive background screening performed; and (c) strive to adhere to our core values (POSITIVE, DEDICATED, TEAM FIRST, FUN!).
All of the coaches are required to go through extensive background screening. Furthermore, they are trained to follow the practice plans of our most experienced staff, which is comprised of former collegiate athletes and professional players. All coaches are required to be First Aid, AED and CPR certified. All teams will have interactions with our professional staff. Full bios of some of our coaches can be found on our Staff page.
Practices typically will be at gyms in the Bethesda, Rockville, and Potomac area. Games will mostly take place in Montgomery County School gyms. All training sessions will be held at the M.A.D.E. 2 perform Basketball center or Koa Sports/Adventist performance institute.
Basketball League: A league has a set duration typically spanning over a several weeks or months. Teams will play multiple games against various opponents according to a pre-set schedule. Leagues often involve a regular season where each team plays a certain number of games. The performance during the regular season typically determines rankings and seeding for any post season play.
Basketball Tournament: A tournament is a short-term event usually lasting a few days. Teams will play multiple games in a short period of time. Tournaments often have a knockout or elimination format, where teams must win to advance.
AAU is considered the most competitive level of basketball for youth players. It is a term typically used to refer to youth "club basketball" or "competitive basketball."
- Higher-Level Competition: AAU basketball attracts some of the best young players, providing a platform for higher-level competition and exposure to scouts and college recruiters.
- Club Teams: Unlike school basketball, AAU teams are often organized by clubs or independent organizations. Players might join a club team and compete in various tournaments and events throughout the year.
- Travel and Tournaments: AAU teams often travel to compete in regional, national, and sometimes even international tournaments. This exposure to different styles of play and high-caliber opponents is a significant part of the AAU experience.
- Development Focus: AAU basketball emphasizes skill development, athletic growth, and preparing players for higher levels of competition, such as high school, college, and potentially professional basketball.
- Season Structure: AAU basketball runs in multiple seasons (fall, winter, and spring), with tryouts typically held before each season. Teams practice regularly and participate in weekend leagues or tournaments.
- Professional Coaching: Many AAU teams have professional coaches who provide high-level training and development opportunities, helping players improve their skills and game understanding.
