You and Your Trusty Teammates

Now this might seem obvious, but you can’t expect to win games if you’re playing alone. Perhaps if you’re John Wall playing against the local U9 rec league that might be an attainable goal, but in all other cases you need to rely on your teammates as much, if not more, as you rely on yourself.

Michael Jordan was once quoted as saying, “Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence win championships”. And everyone should trust MJ; he is a Hanes’ comfort-wear spokesperson after all, so he knows what he’s talking about. Oh, and he’s also the best basketball player of all time, but the Hanes’ endorsement feels more relevant in this instance.

As you may or may not know, Michael Jordan won a plethora of personal achievements in basketball during the 80s, but it wasn’t until 1991, with the help of Scottie Pippen and Horace Grant, his fellow teammates on the Bulls, was MJ finally able to win an NBA championship.

Every sport demands a high level of individual dedication and mental adherence, but every sport also demands a high level of team cohesion and support (singles tennis, notwithstanding). Without a substantive team dynamic it is incredibly difficult to become successful.

It is important never to forget to improve your individual skills—being a well-rounded athlete will only ever help you.  At Koa, we believe in team play. We believe that it helps build character and teaches you a critical value that you will use your whole life.

Always remember: practicing as a team is far more powerful in achieving collective success than practicing alone.
