Mike Jayner joined the Koa team in 2025 as a coach for the Waves Travel Lite program, which introduces young athletes and their families to the competitive landscape of travel baseball in a developmentally focused, limited-scale format. His coaching emphasizes foundational skill-building, positional instruction, and growth in a structured, competitive environment.
Mike has played baseball for 45 years, primarily as a catcher - a position that shaped his leadership style and deep understanding of game dynamics. Mike began his collegiate career at Dutchess Community College, where he helped lead the team to the 1990 NJCAA World Series and earned All-Region XV honors. He later transferred to Division I Pace University, serving as a two-year starter and team captain.
As a coach, Mike is guided by two core principles. Fun comes first and challenge players through encouragement and consistent positivity.
Mike has coached athletes ranging from age 6 to 18+, designing developmentally appropriate drills that meet players at their current level. Mike recognizes that every athlete learns differently and adapts his communication style to ensure feedback is received constructively and effectively.
