July 2019 Newsletter!
I hope everyone is having a wonderful summer. It’s a fun time of year, swim team is winding down, vacation season is upon us, family barbecues are in full swing, and school is over a month away!
Lots of amazing things going on at Koa, our safe, fun counselors, and happy campers were at a half dozen locations this month. Our travel baseball teams wrapped up their seasons, the basketball “live” period is complete, and club field hockey is never in an offseason with weekly pick up for the club players! I did want to share my latest read with the Koa Families. A recommendation from one of my best friends from high school (played goalie for the Harvard Soccer Team) suggested I read Range.
The first chapter of Range talks about the difference between Tiger Woods and Roger Federer. Both are elite athletes and at the top of their sport for decades, however, coming from two different paths. Woods was a child prodigy and focused solely on golf, while Federer was a generalist until he was a teenager. As a generalist, he sampled many sports and started training for ONLY tennis as a teenager (too late- according to the experts) to ever become relevant, let alone a professional. The tagline of the book is “Why Generalist Triumph in a Specialized World” and advocates for the Federer method of training versus Wood’s route. If you are looking for an interesting read on the beach, cabin, pool, go for Range.

Thank you to all for voting Koa Sports Best of Bethesda 2019!
Our third year of Koa Hoops Camp concluded this past Friday. We had over 40 campers working hard while making memories! Big thanks to our coaches who were with us all summer to make it the best camp yet! We are already looking forward to next summer.
The Koa basketball teams may be in the offseason but the front office and staff are hard at work preparing for another exciting year of basketball! Fall tryouts have recently been announced on our website and registration is now open. Some players have gotten a headstart on preparation by attending our daily training sessions. Ask about our training specials!
Please email Evan Sirkey at email@example.com if you have any questions!
Koa’s Travel Baseball had a memorable July. Our 12U team returned from Cooperstown trading over 1,000 pins and making life long memories. Our MCBL College Team had a tough first-round playoff exit, but had an amazing season! Our 13-16-year-olds trained hard and saw tons of development with the introduction of our Velocity Program! Throwing and exit velocity extend careers, Koa will be making sure our athletes don’t get left on the bench.
Baseball camps are getting ready to wrap up this week! It has been an exciting summer with a lot of memories!
We are preparing for the Fall Season and looking forward to seeing everyone back for a new season. The BABL jerseys will get a new look and we can’t wait for you to see them!

Summer Camp 2019 is coming to an end. All of our athletes have been working extremely hard, learning new skills and having lots of fun spending their days outside playing field hockey! What’s better than playing the sport you love with your friends in the summer?! We hope to see everyone continue to play this fall at one of our programs!
This past weekend our coaching staff attended a Coaching Clinic at the University of Delaware. They were able to gain insight, skills, and techniques from other knowledgeable coaches of all levels. We also had 2 teams participate in the University of Delaware Tournament. It was great to see our teams back on the field after a great spring season.
